Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) is being pursued by both Fixed and Mobile operators as they seek to provide a one-stop-shop for their clients. Fixed operators can provide mobile services through a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) strategy; under this approach all call control is managed by a Softswitch under the IMS/TISPAN recommendations. On the other hand Mobile Operators can offer fixed solutions through a Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) strategy, utilising Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology.

The network platform manages mobile devices such as dual mode WiFi-GSM phones. The same core network platform can also manage mobile devices such as DVB-H receivers. For example, users can start watching a video on their mobiles, pause and resume watching it on their home TV set.
